Manufacturer: INTAS
Pharmaceutical name: Telmisartan
Pack: 15 pills (80 mg)
Sartel is prescribed for the treatment of essential hypertension, which refers to high blood pressure occurring at rest without a discernible cause. While there are typically no additional symptoms, elevated blood pressure heightens the risk of cardiovascular diseases and, if left unmanaged, may lead to kidney damage, stroke, heart attack, and vision loss. Sartel effectively reduces blood pressure to normal resting levels, enhancing life expectancy and minimizing the risk of cardiovascular disease and damage to vital organs. It can be administered alone as monotherapy or alongside other antihypertensive agents, such as diuretics (water pills).
Sartel contains the active ingredient telmisartan, which is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) used in the management of hypertension and heart failure.
You should take Sartel whole with a glass of water, either with or without food, once daily at the same time each day. The dosage will vary based on your condition and your doctor's advice. Blood pressure will begin to decrease within 2 hours of taking Sartel, but it may take up to 4 weeks for it to reach its full effectiveness in lowering your blood pressure. Although Sartel aids in controlling your blood pressure, it does not cure it, so it's important to continue taking Sartel as directed by your doctor to maintain normal blood pressure levels.
Sartel contains telmisartan, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that works by inhibiting the interaction of the hormone angiotensin II with its receptor in various tissues, including the smooth muscle of blood vessels and kidney cells. Angiotensin II is a hormone produced naturally in the body that plays several roles in blood pressure regulation as well as fluid balance, including the amount of water the kidneys filter from the blood. It promotes the retention of salt (sodium and potassium) and water in the kidneys and constricts blood vessels, thereby increasing blood volume while decreasing vessel volume, which raises blood pressure. Telmisartan in Sartel blocks this interaction, countering the blood pressure-raising effects of angiotensin II, leading to the dilation (widening) of blood vessels and a greater excretion of salt and water by the kidneys, which reduces blood pressure. Lowering blood pressure lessens the workload on the heart, reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease. Blood pressure is lowered within 2 hours of taking Sartel and lasts for 24 hours, with maximum reduction reached within 4 weeks.
The most frequently reported side effects of Sartel include dizziness, fatigue, palpitations, upper respiratory tract infections such as sinusitis or pharyngitis, cough, and elevated blood potassium levels.
You should avoid using Sartel if you: have an allergy to telmisartan or any components found in Sartel; are pregnant or breastfeeding, as telmisartan may adversely affect a developing fetus; suffer from kidney or liver disease; or are taking medications that may interact with Sartel, including other antihypertensives like ACE inhibitors, diuretics such as furosemide, potassium-sparing diuretics like spironolactone, potassium supplements or salt substitutes containing potassium, lithium for bipolar disorder, or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
Please store your Sartel below 25°C in a cool, dry location.
